… OR PANDEMIC SCHMANDEMIC#5
Coldplay are a polarising musical unit. People seem to love or loathe them and their work, their casual live approach, Chris Martin’s falsetto and expansive, regular grin. I do have a couple of Coldplay albums in my collection — and indeed perform ‘The Scientist’ as part of my acoustic setlist which regularly goes down well with most audience age groups. I was delighted to learn that Barbara had added the song to her ceremony music request list.
While I usually perform ‘The Scientist’ alone, I quickly envisaged string accompaniment and asked Tarryn if she felt like joining me. Seldom one to pass up the opportunity to play music she said yes, and it was a joy to work with her again on a fresh rendition of a familiar song.
So, here’s me on the Cole Clark FL3 and Tarryn on the viola (I’m sure T could share the instrument’s provenance if anyone is interested):
Beautiful as always Michael 😊
You are right about people either loving or loathing Cold Play.
I for one am a lover and my ears certainly appreciate your cover of The Scientist. A song that brings me fond memories of my grade 10 leavers so thank you! xx
Thank you, Mel, it’s great to know Tarryn and I have conjured lovely memories for you 🙂
I used to love Coldplay, but slowly went off them somewhat over the years. I do like their older material best of all – really enjoyed your version Michael and Tarryn, this song suits your voice very well.
Thank you, Kay. Martin is clever at popping in and out of falsetto. Me? I avoid it when I can!
